Award winning Pranksters Theatre follow up their sold out production of “Blackadder Goes Forth” with this powerful, moving and funny play. First performed in 1978, it was an instant sensation, winning the Olivier Best Play Award in 1978 and transferring to Broadway where Tom Conti won the Tony for Best Actor for his portrayal of Ken. Fifty years after its premiere, the moral issues raised by the play could not be more relevant. As the debate over Assisted Dying reaches a climax in Parliament the question remains the same – whose life is it anyway?
Ken Harrison is a young, talented sculptor. Confined to bed following a road accident, paralysed below the neck, he contemplates his future. He conducts a solitary rebellion against the doctors who keep him alive, but can offer him no hope of recovery. He demands to be released from hospital to an inevitable death, but the hospital consultant responsible for him refuses on moral and ethical grounds. The stage is set for a climactic court battle.
